Tuesday: Green Lake 1. Critters

We are with Liz and Mike north of the centre of Seattle in the suburb of Green Lake. Other Seattle blog entries are around and about here. Green Lake the suburb adjoins... Green Lake the lake.

It is a very special and green place. Here some photos from Liz's iPhone on Tuesday, featuring a Great Blue Heron seeking to steal a fisherman's fish, then a family of mallard ducks and a squirrel trying to steal the show.

From downtown Eugene, Oregon May 18, 2015. Ken Kesey (1935-2001), who reads in bronze in Kesey Square, was the author of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. His last major work was an essay for Rolling Stone calling for peace in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. While riding in the car we despaired and grew anxious about the dearth of anything, anything worthy or interesting on radio. We had with us our own family exponent of science fiction and fantasy, whose agency brought us to meet some other wonderful creators of other space-time worlds. We began to see why so many enter such other worlds, given the zap-brain alternatives on two dozen FM stations. The cities of the American northwest lead the world in their development and adoption of new technologies and virtual realities... but there is also a healthy core of old alternative culture which leavens the 'virtualisation' with earthiness and touches of ongoing youthful enthusiasms, ideals and human values, offering some comfort for dramatically different futures, away from darknesses in general international news fare and much mainstream politics and social discourse.
